An OpenAI engineer has been fired and charged by federal prosecutors after a hidden listening device was found in an executive conference room at the company’s San Francisco offices.
OpenAI says it used its own AI models to trace the device to 35-year-old Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national who joined the company in 2025. Hidden-camera footage allegedly shows him checking the device, which was reportedly wrapped in toilet paper and plugged into the back of a TV. FBI Director Kash Patel alleges he was trying to capture sensitive communications about OpenAI’s super intelligence technology.
