The United Arab Emirates has accused the co-pilot of a flydubai flight bound for Israel of attempting to carry out a “terrorist attack” with an axe during the flight.
People familiar with the investigation told the media that the co-pilot has been identified as Omani national Hammam al-Hammami.
A disaster was averted on Sept. 30 after passengers and crew subdued the co-pilot, who had attacked the captain in what Israeli officials said was an apparent attempt to crash the plane carrying more than 170 passengers and crew at the time.
