Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir Heads To Iran | High Level Talks Amid Iran US Tensions

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir is set to travel to Tehran for high level talks focused on regional peace and security as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to escalate.

Pakistani government sources say Iran and Pakistan remain in direct contact as backchannel diplomacy gains momentum. Munir is expected to meet senior Iranian military and political leaders during his visit.

The discussions are expected to focus on efforts to resolve the Iran US conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of tougher sanctions, regional security developments and the escalating Houthi issue in West Asia.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has described Pakistan as an increasingly important mediator between Tehran and Washington. Islamabad is expected to facilitate diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Munir’s visit also comes as Washington prepares what U.S. officials have described as some of the toughest sanctions ever imposed on Iran. President Donald Trump has warned countries against providing economic lifelines to Tehran as the United States seeks to increase pressure on the Islamic Republic.
