The IDF's strike on the Abu al-Duhur base in Syria last week over planned Turkish troop and air defence deployment has stirred a debate in Israel. Opposition leader Yair Lapid said Israel should just have been quiet after sending Turkey a message with the strike "Now, because there are elections, they have this outpouring of talking about it. What’s that good for? It’s heating up the area we don’t need to be heated," Lapid said. Defence minister Israel Katz hit back, saying it was not "forbidden to anger Erdogan, as if we’re just on an evening stroll with a light breeze blowing through the treetops unconnected to anything, and Erdogan is really some lover of Zion."
